Colourful Seasons- Relax it’s Summer.
For many Brits the favourite of England’s colourful seasons is without doubt sunny summer.
Personally I love the bright colours of summer. I’m a very keen gardener and I love the vibrant bright colours of the summer flower garden. How lucky are we that Stampin’ Up! provide us with the Brights family colour palette just perfect to reflect the summer vibes.
It often feels like we don’t quite get enough sun here in the UK but when we do many of us head for the beaches and there is nothing better than a deck chair on the beach with a cool drink and a good book to read. Perfect!
So here I go – my take on a simple Summer thank you note.
Take a piece of Whisper White card for your picture cut smaller than the base card you wish to use.
Use two daubers one inked with Daffodil Delight and one inked with Bermuda Bay to create the oval Vignette soft focus background beach and sea/sky. This is done with very gentle pressure working in lots of small swift strokes so the ink blends as it hits the page. The split between the two colours is achieved by masking the sky area first using a piece of torn paper then covering that work the yellow ink to create the semi-circular area. Next cover the beach area you have just created and work win the same way on the sky. If you are new to working with inks then look out for my technique video classes later in the year where I will detail how to do this and other masking techniques. I suggest doing the yellow first as it’s the lighter colour.
Stamp the design by first adding your text ” you make me smile” in Tangerine Tango ink and then tuck the deckchair in tight to it using Crumb Cake for the frame and Bermuda Bay for the chair fabric.
Don’t forget to add that very important cool drink . Make it your own favourite drink by changing the colours or copy my favourite Mocktail – Orange Juice and Grenadine served here with a slice of lemon. I first tried this wonderful Mocktail in St Lucia in the Caribbean and fell in love with it. Give it a try trust me it’s lovely: Fill your glass 3/4 full with pure squeezed orange juice and add Grenadine syrup to taste I like approx 2 medium spoons full. It all turns a lovely colour. Make it special by adding ice, a straw (please make it paper not plastic ! ) and a cocktail brolley if you fancy.
I have kept life simple here when putting the card together. Use Tombow wet glue or tear tape to add a slice of Bermuda Bay card slightly longer but less wide than your stamped piece stuck down horizontally before adding the picture on top.
Then for a final touch a small enamel heart adds to the design. These hearts are available in colour family packs and have sheets with hearts, stars and dots all totally colour matched to every ink and card colour. I love the way Stampin’ Up! make life simple no search for matching embellishments just find the perfect match straight away. Simple!
